Although Benedictine University is a Catholic college, its Muslim community observed Ramadan between September 23 and October 23. This is a very holy month for Muslims around the world, because they believe Muhammad, their prophet, received the Qur'an from God during this time. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is a time for pray, fasting, charity and self-accountability. These values are to done throughout the month. Ramadan ended with the breaking of fast at the dinner held by the Muslim Student Association on October 19. The dinner was held on campus in Krasa room D. The dinner was capped off with two speakers from the community. "I thought the event was a positive step in understanding the Muslim culture in the Benedictine community," said Sadaf Cassim, a student at BU. The dinner was a place where all are welcomed to learn about the Muslim culture and to be with friends. With a fairly large student body of Muslims the turn out was high, but all students were welcomed to the event as well.
